BLOOMFIELD HILLS: Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng is making the most of his maiden PGA Championship appearance. Prayad, who is the top money earner on the Japan Golf Tour this season, wasted no time picking up where he left off in Saturday’s third round of the final major of the 2008 season. Prayad rolled in five birdies through his first 11 holes Saturday to rocket up the leaderboard at the 7.5 million dollar tournament. “My confidence has been building over the last few days,” Prayad said as he relaxed in the Oakland Hills Country Club clubhouse during a lengthy rain delay. “Now I know more about the layout of this course and what clubs to use so I feel more comfortable out there.” The 42-year-old Prayad registered birdies on the second and fourth hole then posted three straight birdies beginning on the ninth hole to move to four-under on the day. He made the cut by shooting 76 and 70 in the first two rounds.

LOCH LOMOND, Scotland: Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee and Sweden's Alexander Noren shared the first round lead at the Scottish Open on Thursday as the tournament's heavy artillery failed to fire.
An early starter, former paratrooper Thongchai made light of rain-soaked conditions and the back problems which have blighted his season to fire eight birdies in a seven-under-par 64 that was matched by Noren late in the day.
Noren, 25, started slowly but he picked up six shots on his last nine holes to join Thongchai in the lead, a shot clear of 2007 US Open champion Angel Cabrera (65).

The tournament began in 1965 but, due to lack of sponsorship, has not been played since New Zealander Richard Lee won the 2005 event at Blue Canyon Golf and Country Club on Phuket Island. However, Singapore-based promoters World Sport Group (WSG) announced in a press release on Tuesday that they had reached agreement and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Thailand Golf Association to promote the event for the next three years. |
