This 45-hole golf and sports complex is one of the golf courses in Kuala Lumpur that is located in the city center where the famous Merdeka Square and Petronas Twin Towers are located. Established in 1893, The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) is the founding ground of golf in Malaysia and the premier Malaysia golf club.
RSGC's New Course, which dates from 1924, wraps itself around the front-nine of its longer and more renowned companion, the Old Course. The estate was originally part of a tree research facility of the Forestry Department and many 100 year old trees line the fairways. Manmade ponds, also legacies from the previous tenant, add greatly to the ambiance of many holes.
The New Course at 6,605 yards, par-72 is characterized by narrow fairways and strategic bunkering. Both ensure your game is given a challenging workout, even if water is not such a factor in this pleasantly tree-lined and flattish terrain. Perhaps the first hole, a short par-4, will stay in your mind as much as any other, with an opening drive towards KL's most famous building, the Petronas Twin Towers.
Other memorable holes on the New Course are the short par-4 14th and the tough finishing hole, a par-4 of nearly 500 yards.
Visitors should note that the use of caddies is compulsory when playing at Royal Selangor. The clubhouse facilities include a restaurant overlooking the New Course and ample changing rooms. Get there before sunrise to see a spectacular view over the RSGC and Kuala Lumpur skyline in the distance.
