(one of the most difficult golf courses in Malaysia)
Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam (KGPA) is a 27-Hole golf course established in 1989 and located near Kuala Lumpur. Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam has been voted the most challenging golf course in Malaysia. However, KGPA is still a playable for all levels of golfers.
The championship course (Hills and Lakes) is a classic par-72 golf course measuring 6,887 meters from the tips. KGPA offers a lot of features. From the rolling fairways to the elevated greens and tees, each hole is a unique golfing experience.
Extensive landscaping and fairways lined by thick rough characterize the Kuala Lumpur golf course. Accurate driving is a must to score well. A mixture of large and small well-manicured greens run fast and precise. The year-round better than average playing conditions only add to the enjoyment at KGPA. The third nine (Forest) is only 2,446 meters and caters for walking and senior golfers. The course is underestimated by many who are fooled by it’s shorter length.
KGPA offers a lot of features. From the rolling fairways to the elevated greens and tees, each hole is like an adventure, an exciting proposition. The par-3 holes are especially are superb. The Hills nine boasts 3 par-5’s and 3 par-3’s, the 7th and 8th being 174 and 194 meters respectively. The 8th is the signature hole, and many rounds have been torn to shreds by this monster. Make the turn, and you see another set of par-3’s, a 176-meter carry over water and a 150 meter over a deep gorge, both wonderful to play.
Other notable standouts include the first hole of the Hills-Lakes course which plays off an elevated tee staring down into the generous fairway, before going up again to a small green. The par-4 3rd hole requires a long tee shot to clear the dogleg and have a chance for par. The 1St hole of the Lakes course is another long par-4. However, fortunately, it is all downhill, so the distance is less of an issue to get on in regulation. Other holes on the Hills-Lakes course offer significant elevation changes that allow you to see the vastness of the course.
KGPA has a mandatory caddie policy, which is welcome when golfing in Malaysia. The grass driving range should be visited before your round so as not to lose too many balls from stray shots on the golf course.
You can also combine this golf course with other courses for your next golf holiday.
