Blue Canyon Country Club, Canyon Course Description:
(site of Tiger Woods' 1998 Asian victory and host of 2007 Johnnie Walker)

Blue Canyon Country Club’s Canyon Course was the original 18 hole layout and leaped to fame when selected as the venue for the 1994 Johnnie Walker Classic. Since then the same tournament has returned two times with Tiger Woods winning in 1998.  Blue Canyon recognized as a world championship golf course continually ranks as one of Thailand's best golf courses.

The course set in an abandoned tin mine displays old strip mine characteristics throughout the property. Streams filled with rust-colored water, canyons with sheer cliffs exposing red and white tin ore-laden rock, and tailings from former mining operations are a few of the many throwbacks to days of time gone.

The front nine plays up and through palm-oil tree-lined fairways. The back nine gets even better with holes 11-15 and probably the best five stretch in Thailand, if not all Asia. These five memorable golf holes will undoubtedly be the center of after round discussions.

The Par 5 11th is a challenging 600-yard par 5 with water crossing the fairway on the first shot and water guarding the green left and right on the third shot. A penalty-free bogey is a good score here. The famous Par 4 13th over a canyon tempts the daredevil in every golfer, and the following Par 3 14th from an elevated tee to an island green is one of the most beautiful, while also challenging par 3's for all players who tee it up and go for it. There is no bailout area and unless playing the course before, trusting the right club and gauging the wind effects is difficult. Watery, not happy, endings are more typical for most visiting Phuket golfers.

The 17th is also one of the most intimidating Par 3’s anywhere, and even from the white tees, it’s a long iron or fairway wood to a partially hidden green that tucked behind the canyon on the right.

Blue Canyon has a large clubhouse, with three restaurants, well-stocked pro shop, lockers and shower facilities, massage and spa. In its glory days of the 90’s, it set the standard for golf club excellence. However, nowadays the whole facility is a bit tired and in need of a facelift and renovation. Most Phuket golf visitors skip the onsite resort and prefer to stay close to one of the leading centers or at least at one of the resorts on the nearby Mai Khao Beach.

"Played in peak condition immediately post the KLPGA event. Very good layout. The signature canyon hole offers a true risk and reward challenge. A good, if not a great course, perhaps a little convoluted in its lay out. Probably the best 'golf test' on the island but not necessarily the most fun or memorable. Hospitality in the club house a little disorganised. "

"Great layout. We were fortunate enough to be among the first groups to play the newly renovated full 18. There was still some works underway, however this hardly detracted from the experience."

"This course is a MUST if you are in Phuket, along with Red Mountain. If you ever want to play a course where Tiger has been AND played then Blue Canyon is your course.

The course management and maintenance is of absolute high standard. Caddies are well trained and the course is also well marshaled.

We had a great time there last month and enjoyed the beer at the clubhouse with stunning view over the course after our round."
Sean E. (2010-03-08)
"What a good course. Had a couple of rounds here, fairways and greens are as good as anywhere i have played in Thailand. Friendly staff and good caddie as well who was a great help on the first round."
graham (2010-03-03)
"This is a tough track and a great test of your golf game. Come here to enjoy 2 great golf holes, the 13th and 14th, and play the best par 3 in Asia according to Fred Couples - the 17th. But dont expect to shoot a score, its TOUGH! "
Andy (2010-03-03)
"A 'must do' golf course if you are anywhere near Phuket. Two great courses and a great test of golf. Practise your putting though! Fabulous club hose, massage, jacuzzi and sauna's in changing rooms. A must do."
Roger (2009-12-23)
"Hi,

    • This is the 2nd time i engaged GolfAsia for the HCM package. What impressed me much was they archived my last record and was able to recommend me 'new' courses to play this time. As was the last trip, they were organised and reliable. The arrangements (including a golf game that required speedboat transfer) were seamless and hassle-free.
Well done, GolfAsia. Looking forward to another trip by you.

    • The service from start to finish was excellent (late changes to room requirements, number of players etc not a problem). Effective communication was maintained from start to finish. A very fair price for the services provided (I make a lot of trips to Thailand for golf so I know the general costs of hotels, transport, golf if you book directly). I like to use a service provider for larger groups to avoid all the administrative hassle and this is the second time I have used Golf Asian - it will certainly not be the last time. They take all the pressure off the planners/organizers, which meant we could all relax and enjoy the holiday. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

    • Great service from beginning to end. The fast lane at the airport started our trip wonderfully and the organisation throughout was faultless. Hua His was a delightful surprise. Black Mountain golf course was great. The trip to the National Park was fantastic. Pukky was brilliant. Second trip we have done through you and will be doing more.
