International Sales Manager at Golfasian, Jim Mullet, on why he thinks Chiang Mai should be your next golf holiday destination

I first heard of Chiang Mai many years ago while working in Texas in Corporate Finance. A small local Thai Restaurant was one of my favorite lunch spots and I got to know the owner and his family, who kept telling me “You need to go to Chiang Mai, it’s the best place in Thailand!”. The following year I took their advice and it quickly became one of my favorite Go To spots. The mountain scenery, the laid-back atmosphere, the gentle and friendly locals, the outstanding value for money and the variety of ways to spend a fun day all combine to make it one of my favorite holiday destinations. Just a one hour flight from Bangkok plus convenient direct flights from numerous International hubs including Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei and Seoul make Chiang Mai easy to get to, and once you’re there it’s so easy to get around. Most hotels are within 15 minutes of the airport and most golf courses are within 45 minutes of the hotels. And if you stay at a central hotel you’ll have lots of options for dining, entertainment and shopping within easy walking distance. I became so fond of Chiang Mai that I moved there for 3 ½ years, and even though I am now back in Bangkok I still visit regularly throughout the year. Loy Kratong which is normally in November (the dates change every year according to the Thai Lunar Calendar) is my favorite time to be there. All the locals come out and the atmosphere is very festive with the sky filled with floating lanterns and fireworks all evening. Many younger visitors (and some not so young) also are quite big on Songkran held in mid-April with all-out water fights soaking everyone from head to toe – though personally that’s probably my least favorite time! For avid golfers there are two ‘Must Play’ courses: Alpine Chiang Mai which has played host to the Asian Tour’s Chiang Mai Classic and Chiangmai Highlands. The surrounding scenery at both is spectacular, but you’ll need to concentrate on your game as they are both also a strong challenge and an enjoyable one at that! In addition, there are at least 8 other good courses in the area to provide plenty of variety for all golfers. Non-golfers will have a great time in Chiang Mai too with a large number of scenic and inspiring options for spending their time including half and full day tours covering ancient temples, majestic mountains and waterfalls, Thai cooking classes, elephant camps, market shopping and much more. If you haven’t been to Chiang Mai yet I highly recommend it And if it’s been a few years since you were there you’ll be surprised at how much it’s grown!

    • March 2019 marked our fourth and best golf trip so far. This time we visited Hua Hin and Pattaya and Golf Asian out did themselves. Our Bus driver “Rocky” in Hua Hin looked after us perfectly as did “Moo” in Pattaya. Actually Moo has been one of our bus drivers on every trip and we love him to bits. His little giggle of a laugh when listening to our antics is hilarious 😆 We also had the absolute delight of having Bua accompany us on most trips. Bua stayed with us and made sure everything was perfect until we had all teed off.
So thanks to Golf Asian, rest assured we will be seeing you all again 👍🏼

    • Our golfing trip of 8 people to Vietnam has just finished sadly. We started off in Ho Chi Minh City, then Danang and finally Hanoi with a two night HaLong Bay cruise to have some R & R after 7 golf games plus some sightseeing. Thank you to everyone at Golfasian from the first enquiry, finalising an itinerary and then our time in Vietnam. Everything ran so smoothly and professionally that we didn't need to stress over any of the arrangements at all. Miss Huong was so helpful with all aspects of our tour and also in organising catering for non seafood eaters wherever we went on our itinerary. The drivers during our stay were friendly and obliging from Tony in Ho Chi Minh, Lucky in Danang and Mr Simon in Hanoi was especially helpful and informative and more than happy to answer any questions plus also give suggestions which we were grateful for. We could not fault the service from Golfasian and would not hesitate to recommend them and use them again.

    • Our small party of 4 did a 4 day golf tour, 1 day at Thai Country Club in Bangkok, then 3 days in Hua Hin covering Imperial Lakeview Resort, Banyan and Black Mountain. Golf Asian did a 1st class job of all the arrangements including golf bookings, hotels and transportation. Their service is highly recommended and at a reasonable cost. Well done to all the staff at Golf Asian tour company. We will be back.

    • Vietnam- Fabulous First Trip to Asia (October 21-November 5, 2017)
Huge thanks to AJ for making it all so easy. We emailed Golfasian asking for options on Tuesday morning MST, spoke to AJ Tuesday night and were on our way to Vietnam from Calgary, Alberta Canada on Saturday. We were met by a GolfAsian Representative at the Airport and our driver Jason (who took great care of us). **Remember to get your Visa and photos, it must be ordered online and confirmation received back before arriving in Vietnam** The golf courses were beautiful (BRG Da Nang , Montgomerie Links, Ba'Na' Hills and Laguna Golf Lang Co) and the staff were excellent, professional, super fun Caddies. We stayed at Naman Retreat in Da Nang, 5 STAR perfection. We highly recommend using Golfasian for your Asia Golf Holiday.
