Danang & Hoi An Golf Destination Guide

Introduction to Danang & Hoi An Golf

Central Vietnam is arguably the most exciting golf destination in Asia right now. It offers a rare “best of both worlds” experience: the vibrant, modern beach city of Danang and the ancient, lantern-lit charm of Hoi An connected by a pristine coastline known as the “Golf Coast.” Here, you don’t just play golf; you experience art. The region is home to a concentrated collection of masterpieces designed by legends like Greg Norman, Sir Nick Faldo, Luke Donald, and Robert Trent Jones Jr. Whether you are battling the wind on a rugged links course or teeing off under floodlights in cool mountain air, this is a destination that demands to be played.

Top 3 Courses to Play

The standard of design here is world-class. These three courses offer three completely distinct experiences.

1

Hoiana Shores Golf Club Scotland in the Tropics Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., this is Vietnam’s first true links course and arguably its finest. Located right on the ocean’s edge, it is pure, rugged, and windswept. There are no flags on the greens only red lanterns, a nod to Hoi An’s heritage.

Holes 16 and 17 play directly along the beach. If the wind is up, it’s a battle; if it’s calm, it’s a paradise. Don’t miss the “Gambler’s 19th Hole” a short par-3 designed to settle bets after the round.

2

Ba Na Hills Golf Club Golf in the Clouds Located 30 minutes inland at the foot of the famous Ba Na Hills, this course feels a world away from the coast. Designed by Luke Donald, it winds through lush jungle and streams with dramatic elevation changes. The air here is cooler, and the silence is profound.

Night Golf. The entire course is floodlit, making it the best place in Asia for an evening round. The Par-3 16th island green is a heart-stopper, especially when lit up against the dark mountain backdrop.

3

(Norman Course)

Legend Da Nang Golf Resort (Norman Course) The Dunes Experience Before the others arrived, there was the “Dunes Course” by Greg Norman. It remains a favorite for its firm, fast fairways that cut through rugged sand dunes and Casuarina pines. It feels classic, established, and incredibly fun to play.

The Par-3 16th. It plays straight towards the ocean with the Marble Mountains in the background one of the most photographed tee shots in Vietnam.

Experience Danang & Hoi An's Best

You are visiting two UNESCO World Heritage sites. Here is how to savor them.

The Hoi An Must-Eat:

Cao Lau. This noodle dish is unique to Hoi An (legend says the noodles must be made with water from a specific ancient well). It features thick noodles, barbecue pork, and crisp greens.

The World’s Best Sandwich: Banh Mi:

Head to Banh Mi Phuong (made famous by Anthony Bourdain) for a crispy baguette filled with pâté, pork, and pickled veggies.

Seafood Feast:

In Danang, visit the Seafood Row along the beach. Pick your fresh catch from the tanks at Be Man and have it grilled with chili and salt.

A Culinary Capital

Hoi An Ancient Town:

Spend your evenings walking the yellow-walled streets under thousands of colorful lanterns. It is magical, car-free, and full of tailors who can stitch a custom suit in 24 hours.

The Golden Bridge:

Take the cable car up to Sun World Ba Na Hills to walk across the famous “Hands of God” bridge.

Marble Mountains:

Explore the caves and pagodas hidden inside these five limestone peaks rising from the city.

When to Travel
Central Vietnam has a different climate rhythm than the south.

Dry & Mild Season

The Vibe:

The absolute best time to visit. Temperatures are comfortable (25°C-28°C), the skies are blue, and the humidity is low.

Golf Conditions:

Perfect. The links courses are firm and fast.

Hot Season

The Vibe:

It gets hot (34°C-38°C). The beaches are busy, and the ocean is warm.

Golf Conditions:

We recommend early morning tee times (6:00 AM) or playing night golf at Ba Na Hills to beat the heat.

Rainy Season

The Vibe:

This is the typhoon season. Expect heavy rain and choppy seas.

Golf Conditions:

High risk. While you can get lucky with dry days, it is the gamble season.
