Kuala Lumpur is a city that defies expectations. It is a place where futuristic skyscrapers like the Petronas Towers rise above colonial heritage buildings and lush banyan trees. For the golfer, “KL” offers a unique proposition: world-class championship golf located just minutes from the heart of a bustling metropolis. You can play a morning round on a course that has hosted the PGA Tour, enjoy a curry laksa for lunch, and be shopping in Bukit Bintang by the afternoon. With its “Garden City” reputation, the courses here are incredibly lush, carved out of tropical jungle and former tin mines, offering a green escape without ever leaving the excitement of the city.
Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (West Course) The Tournament Host Formerly known as TPC Kuala Lumpur, this club is the undisputed king of Malaysian golf. The West Course is world-famous, having hosted the PGA Tour’s CIMB Classic and the LPGA Malaysia. It is a immaculate, manicured test of golf with lightning-fast greens and dramatic water features.
Saujana Golf & Country Club (Palm Course) The “Cobra” If KLGCC is beauty, Saujana is the beast. The Palm Course is famously nicknamed “The Cobra” for its bite. It is known as the toughest test of golf in the country, featuring tight, palm-lined fairways and steep elevation changes. It has hosted the Malaysian Open multiple times and commands respect from every player.
The undulating terrain. You will rarely find a flat lie here, making it a shot-maker’s paradise.
The Mines Resort & Golf Club The Tiger Woods Winner Built on the site of the world’s largest open-cast tin mine, The Mines is a masterpiece of environmental recovery designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The front nine plays through lush jungle, while the back nine hugs the massive lake that filled the old mine pit. This is where Tiger Woods won the World Cup of Golf in 1999.
The deep, high-lipped bunkers and the “Lakeside” stretch on the back nine, where the water is always in play.
KL is a melting pot of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures. The result? Incredible food.
• Nasi Lemak:
The national dish. Fragrant coconut rice served with spicy sambal, anchovies, peanuts, and boiled egg. Try the legendary version at Village Park Restaurant.
• Jalan Alor:
As the sun sets, this street transforms into a massive open-air kitchen. It is the place for satay, BBQ chicken wings, and Hokkien Mee (thick dark noodles).
• Roti Canai:
A flaky, buttery flatbread dipped in dhal or curry. It’s the perfect golfer’s breakfast.
• Petronas Twin Towers:
You can’t miss them, but going up to the Skybridge gives you a view of the courses you just played.
• Batu Caves:
Climb the 272 colorful steps to this massive limestone cave temple guarded by a giant golden statue of Lord Murugan.
• Shopping:
From the luxury brands of Pavilion KL to the bargains of Petaling Street, the shopping here is endless.
