Welcome to the September 2021 edition of Golfasian’s “The Asian Golf Insider”, your source for the latest Asian Golf travel insider news and updates.

Here in Thailand we are extremely enthusiastic to report that not only is The Phuket Sandbox and the 7+7 Extension extremely successful, but that the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) and Thai Government are currently discussing the addition of a further 25 provinces to join the 3rd phase of reopening Thailand on 15th October.

The push to end pandemic-induced restrictions on tourists is part of Thailand's new "living with Covid-19" strategy. Media reports confirm the wheels are fully set in motion to include Pattaya, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai re-opening on 1st October, bringing a new energy to life in Thailand and the light at the end of the tunnel well and truly shining bright. Final approval is still pending but we are hopeful.

Although neighboring South East Asian countries remain closed to tourism its good to see that daily vaccines have been increasing and positive Covid-19 cases are declining overall.

DESTINATION NEWS - Khao Lak

A lot is happening in the South of Thailand, namely in Phang Nga province, where the new Aquella Golf & Country Club has opened its doors to golfers. This world-class course sits along the Andaman Sea at Thai Muang Beach, 40 minutes north of Phuket Airport. The 177-hectare site development includes the former Thai Muang Golf Club's rejuvenation, new hotels, residential villages, and yacht club. Read More about this new golf course in Thailand.

SOUTHEAST ASIA TRAVEL UPDATES

Thailand

The Phuket Sandbox 7+7 Extension along with The Samui Plus programme is open to all tourists arriving from low to medium risk countries. During the first 14 nights tourists must adhere to the rules and regulations in place, ensuring travel within designated routes only.

Vietnam

On 4th September the first flight carrying passengers from Japan arrived in Vietnam, these passengers are fully vaccinated and we see the start of a reformed 7 days quarantine pilot scheme. This scheme is only applicable to those in the approved travel categories.

Malaysia

Malaysia continues to stay closed to tourism following strict internal Covid-19 regulations. Inter-province and city travel is at present prohibited, however the government plan to open Langkawi as a part of their pilot scheme to locals under a travel bubble plan from Sept 16.

Indonesia

Indonesia has extended its partial lockdown until 6th September 2021 after successfully lowering Covid-19 cases in Java and Bali, flattening the curve. Vaccinations have been accelerated nationwide to create herd immunity with 104m doses given.
