DESTINATION OF THE MONTH: Pattaya

Why Pattaya Belongs on Every Asia Golf Shortlist

Few places in Asia do golf as well as Pattaya. It's not just the courses - it's how everything fits together. Located on the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya sits just over an hour from Bangkok and around 30 minutes from U-Tapao International Airport. You can be on the first tee the same day you land.

What makes Pattaya different is the sheer depth of choice. There are more than 30 courses in the area, so you're not stuck playing the same two or three tracks all week. You've got championship layouts, modern designs, classic parkland courses, resort-style tracks - all within a short drive of wherever you're staying.

The quality at the top end is undeniable. Siam Country Club, Chee Chan Golf Resort, and Laem Chabang International Country Club consistently rank among Thailand's best. Rolling terrain, strong conditioning, layouts that reward good shot-making - these courses appeal to everyone from relaxed holiday players to serious low handicappers looking for a challenge.

But Pattaya delivers something many golf destinations can't: real variety off the course. Beachfront resorts, city hotels, private villas, golf lodges - there's accommodation for every style and budget. After golf, you've got options. Quiet seaside dining and wellness if you want to wind down. Lively restaurants, shows, shopping, and nightlife if you don't. You can keep things simple or fill every evening with something different.

Pattaya also works brilliantly as part of a longer trip. Many golfers combine it with Bangkok or Hua Hin, creating an itinerary that balances city, beach, and golf without burning time on transfers.

COURSE OF THE MONTH:
Chee Chan Golf Resort

If there is one course in Pattaya that truly stands out, it is Chee Chan Golf Resort.

Set beneath the striking Khao Chee Chan golden Buddha, Chee Chan offers a sense of space and scale that is rare in the area. Wide fairways, gentle elevation changes, and long sightlines create an open, almost highland-style feel, with views stretching across lakes, temples, and distant hills toward the Gulf of Thailand.

The par-72 layout is modern, long, and thoughtfully designed. Strong ball striking is rewarded, while long uphill par-4s, well-positioned bunkers, and native wetland areas demand smart course management. The Zoysia fairways provide excellent lies, and the Tifeagle Bermuda greens are consistently smooth and true, making conditions some of the best in Pattaya.

The experience off the course matches the quality of the layout. A clean, modern clubhouse and excellent practice facilities complete the picture, supported by service levels that meet international expectations.

Chee Chan is not just another round in Pattaya. It is the course that defines a Pattaya golf holiday and the one most golfers remember long after the trip is over.

ACCOMMODATION OF THE MONTH:
Avani Pattaya Resort

When it comes to choosing the right base for a Pattaya golf holiday, Avani Pattaya Resort consistently ticks all the boxes.

Its biggest advantage is location. Sitting right in the heart of Pattaya, Avani makes it easy to combine golf with everything else the destination offers. Transfers to Pattaya’s top golf courses are straightforward, while restaurants, shopping, beachfront walks, and nightlife are all just steps away once the clubs are back in the locker.

Despite its central setting, the resort itself feels like a retreat. The large free-form swimming pool, swim-up bar, and mature tropical gardens create a calm, relaxed atmosphere that is ideal between golf days. It is the kind of place where recovery matters, whether that means a quiet afternoon by the pool or a drink with fellow golfers before heading out.

Food and beverage is another strong point. Avani offers a good range of dining options, from casual to more refined, all well suited to golfers’ schedules. The Irish Pub & Sports Bar is a popular meeting spot, perfect for pre-dinner drinks, watching sport, or simply swapping stories after a round.

For golfers, Avani Pattaya delivers what matters most: comfort, convenience, and consistency. It is a hotel that understands golf travel and supports it quietly and efficiently, making it one of the best places to stay when playing golf in Pattaya.

Unique Experiences in Pattaya -
Beyond the Usual

Pattaya has a reputation that often overshadows its quieter, more interesting side. Step just slightly off the main strip and a very different destination reveals itself.

For an early start, head north to Wong Amat Beach at sunrise. Fishermen bring in their small boats, locals walk for exercise, and the sea is calm and reflective. It is one of the few places in Pattaya where the day still begins slowly and authentically.

Inland, the Khao Mai Kaew Community Forest offers a peaceful escape of shaded trails, reservoirs, and gentle hills. Guided walks introduce local flora, birdlife, and traditional water management systems. It is quiet, educational, and far removed from Pattaya’s busy coastline.

South of town, Bang Saray remains a working fishing village with a long beachfront and a strong local feel. Small seafood restaurants line the sand, serving whatever came in that morning. No menus, no fuss - just grilled fish, prawns, and cold drinks with your feet in the sand. Best visited on weekdays.

For a true escape, consider a day trip to Samae San Island. Managed by the Royal Thai Navy, this restricted-access island is known for its white sand beaches and clear waters. Visitor numbers are controlled, giving it a secluded, almost private feel. A short boat ride from the mainland brings you to excellent snorkeling and unspoiled nature - ideal after a few days on the golf course.

If you enjoy movement-based recovery, several local trainers offer private stretching, mobility, or Muay Thai-inspired conditioning sessions designed for golfers. These focus on balance, flexibility, and core strength rather than heavy impact, making them a practical addition to a golf itinerary.

Pattaya rewards curiosity. Away from the crowds, it offers local life, space, and moments of calm that many visitors never see - and those moments often become the most memorable part of a golf holiday.

Golf Package of the Month -
Pattaya Luxury Golf Villa Package

For golfers who value space, privacy, and a more relaxed way to travel, the Pattaya Luxury Golf Villa Package is one of the most unique ways to experience Pattaya.

Instead of a  hotel, you stay in a private luxury pool villa, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, giving you room to unwind properly between rounds.

The golf line-up is as strong as it gets. You will play Chee Chan Golf Resort, a modern standout set beneath the iconic Golden Buddha, followed by two of Pattaya’s headline courses at Siam Country Club – the Plantation Course, a former Thailand Open venue, and the Old Course, home of the US LPGA in Thailand. The week is rounded out with a round at Laem Chabang International Country Club, Jack Nicklaus’ highly regarded design and a long-time favorite among returning golfers.

Free days are built into the itinerary, giving you time to relax by the pool, explore Pattaya, or add optional excursions and extra golf. Everything can be adjusted – villa type, golf courses, pace of play – to suit your requirements.

This package combines top-tier golf with a more private, flexible style of stay. It is ideal for golfers who want great courses by day and their own space to relax, and recover by night.

MEET YOUR GM -  Matthew Fryar: Perspective, Place, and the Quiet Art of Hospitality in Pattaya

Matthew Fryar, General Manager of Avani Pattaya Resort, didn't follow a traditional path into hospitality. Starting in retail sales at London's InterContinental, he learned the business alongside people from all over the world - an experience that shaped how he leads today.

His career took an unexpected turn through hospitality IT before returning to hotel operations at a senior level. Now at Avani Pattaya, he's focused on creating immersive guest experiences through community-driven programs like City Champions and Oasis Beats, while supporting golf travelers with thoughtful amenities and local expertise.

For Matthew, great hospitality isn't about transactions - it's about long memories, real connection, and making people feel they belong. [Click here to read the full article]

MEET OUR TEAM - Pommy

Pommy spent over a decade in senior sales with Thailand's top hotel groups - Eastin, U Hotels & Resorts, ONYX - before joining Golfasian. She knows how travel decisions get made and how to turn interest into bookings. Her background spans corporate accounts, government business, and group sales, with a knack for reading situations and building relationships that last.

Travel and golf shape how she works. She's explored Europe and Asia, camera in hand, drawn to good food and places with character. She plays regularly and values how golf opens up real conversations with friends and clients alike. Outside work: seafood, regional beers, Pilates, and color-coordinating her golf outfits each round. Plan well, enjoy more - that's her approach to everything, including the organized, smooth-running golf holidays she creates at Golfasian.
