| | Welcome... |
...to the May edition of Asian Golf Insider. Low season is here, and with it some of the best value of the year across Southeast Asia. This month we are heading to Batam, plus we have two big launches to share - Golfasian Rewards and our new mobile app. |

|
We have two big launches to share this month. We have just rolled out Golfasian Rewards - our new loyalty program where every round you play with us earns you points that turn into real money off your next trip. 50 points per round, 100 points per round at Golfasian tournaments, and 10 points equals US$1 off your next booking. No fees, no fine print. If you have travelled with us before, you are already in. From 1 April 2026 onwards, every new booking automatically counts towards your rewards.
The My Golfasian app is now live on iPhone and Android. Track your rewards balance, view past and upcoming trips, manage your profile, and access everything Golfasian from your phone. Download it from the App Store or Google Play - or if you prefer, you can also access everything directly through your web browser at My Golfasian. It is free, and it makes managing your golf travel a lot easier. While you are in there, take a moment to update your customer profile and upload a profile photo - it helps our team recognize you and personalize your trips.
In this May issue, we turn the spotlight on Batam - Indonesia's most accessible golf destination, sitting just a short ferry ride from Singapore. You will find a destination overview, a feature on Southlinks Country Club as our Course of the Month, a closer look at Wyndham Panbil Batam as our Accommodation of the Month, and hidden gems and unique experiences beyond the fairways.

We are now in full preparation mode for two of our biggest events of the year - the Centara World Masters in Hua Hin (7-13 June) and the Avani Pattaya 2 Ball (14-20 June). Two back-to-back tournaments, hundreds of players, and a packed two weeks of golf, social events, and great company. Our team is excited to welcome everyone on the ground and we cannot wait to see old friends and meet new ones.
A quick reminder on timing - it is the rainy season here in Southeast Asia, and that is exactly why now is one of the best times to plan your golf holiday. Courses are quieter, tee times open up, and green fees and hotel rates drop significantly. The showers are usually short and refreshing, and many courses and resorts are running great seasonal offers. If you have been thinking about a trip, this is the window where your money goes furthest.
And as always, please remember that we are still in voting season for the 2026 World Golf Awards. Every vote helps - more on that further down.
We hope you enjoy this month's edition.
Mark Siegel,
Managing Director

DESTINATION OF THE MONTH: Batam, Indonesia |
One of Southeast Asia's Most Underrated Golf Destinations
If you are looking for a golf destination that combines easy access, strong course quality, and exceptional value, Batam belongs on your shortlist. Sitting in Indonesia's Riau Islands, just a short hop across the strait from Singapore and a quick flight from most major Asian hubs, Batam is one of the easiest international golf trips you can plan in this part of the world - and one of the most underrated.
The course lineup is the headline. Six championship layouts sit within easy reach of one another - Southlinks Country Club, Palm Springs Golf & Country Club, Tering Bay Golf & Country Club, Indah Puri Golf Resort, Padang Golf Sukajadi, and Batam Hills Golf Resort. Designers include Greg Norman (Tering Bay), Larry Nelson and IMG (Palm Springs), Hisamitsu Ohnishi (Southlinks), and Ron Fream (Indah Puri). Each course has its own character - links-style coastal play, dramatic elevation changes, mature tropical landscaping, ocean views - and you can comfortably play four or five rounds in a long weekend without retracing your steps.
Value is where Batam really separates itself. Green fees, hotels, food, and transport all run at a fraction of what you would pay across the strait, while the quality of golf and accommodation easily holds its own against more established destinations in the region. Conditioning is consistently good, the caddies are experienced, and the clubhouses are well equipped.
Beyond golf, Batam has more to offer than most golfers expect. The iconic Barelang Bridge - a network of six bridges connecting Batam to Rempang and Galang islands - is one of the most scenic drives in the region and the best place to catch a sunset. Floating seafood restaurants known as kelongs serve the day's catch fresh from the water. The Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple is one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. And when the sun goes down, the Harbour Bay area comes alive with bars, live music venues, and waterfront dining - the social hub of the island and an easy way to round off a day on the course.
Getting here is straightforward. Hang Nadim International Airport handles direct flights from across Indonesia and the wider region, and ferry connections from neighbouring countries run throughout the day to Batam Center, Sekupang, Harbour Bay, and Nongsa. Most hotels arrange terminal pickups, and the courses are generally 15 to 45 minutes from the main accommodation areas.
For a long weekend of golf, a buddy trip, or a value-driven extension to a wider Southeast Asia tour, Batam delivers more golf for the money than just about anywhere else in the region. |

| COURSE OF THE MONTH:
Southlinks Country Club | Southlinks Country Club sits on 213 hectares of elevated ground in central Batam, adjacent to the Sei Ladi reservoir and an easy drive from both Sekupang and Nagoya. It has been a fixture of the Batam golf scene since 1996 and remains one of the island's most popular and best-conditioned courses.
The original par-72, 6,308-metre layout was designed by Japanese architect Hisamitsu Ohnishi with the brief of being challenging for the professional yet accessible for the beginner. It has not stood still since. Successive rounds of investment have reshaped the course into something noticeably more modern - additional water features, island green options, repositioned bunkers, and reworked doglegs have added bite and variety to what was once a fairly straightforward out-and-back routing. Conditioning today is excellent, with consistently fast greens and well-defined fairways.
The front nine plays through more elevated terrain, with several holes offering open views across the Batam coastline and Nagoya City. The back nine is flatter but features two of the strongest holes on the course - the par-3 eighth, played over water with landscaped rocks framing the green, and the long par-4 ninth, where a stream cuts across the fairway around 250 yards from the tee. Make par on the closing hole and you have done something well.
Facilities are a real strength and have been kept up to a high standard. The clubhouse is in excellent shape with three on-site restaurants - including a Japanese restaurant that draws a loyal following - a well-stocked pro shop, full massage and spa services, and on-site two and three-bedroom apartments that work well for groups. Floodlights on the closing four holes also extend playing time into the evening, which is a useful option for late starters or twilight rounds.
Recent customer reviews have been consistently strong - well-manicured fairways, knowledgeable caddies, and good pace of play. For a Batam-based golf trip, Southlinks is an essential inclusion - and at current green fee rates, exceptional value for a course of this quality.

ACCOMMODATION OF THE MONTH: Wyndham Panbil Batam | A Five-Star Base for Golf, Wellness, and Easy Access to Everything Batam
For golfers heading to Batam, location and value are usually the deciding factors. Wyndham Panbil Batam delivers on both - and adds a level of comfort and amenity that punches well above what you would expect at this price point.
Set in the exclusive Panbil area, the 16-storey, five-star hotel sits adjacent to the lush Panbil Nature Reserve and just a short drive from the Batam Center Ferry Terminal. The 232 rooms and suites blend modern comfort with traditional Bataknese design - rainforest showers, plush bedding, smart TVs, stocked minibars, and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over either the nature reserve or the manicured tropical gardens.
What sets the property apart for golfers is the combination of facilities and food. Six on-site restaurants and bars cover the bases, from international and Indonesian breakfasts at Andaliman to Italian set menus at La Bella Vita and craft cocktails with smoked brisket at Blaze Pool Bar. After a round, the Eska Wellness Spa offers a full menu of massages and body treatments, and the outdoor infinity pool with its rooftop views is a welcome way to wind down.
Location is a real advantage. The hotel is around 15 minutes from Batam Center Ferry Terminal, 25 minutes from Hang Nadim International Airport, and within easy reach of Southlinks, Palm Springs, Padang Golf Sukajadi, and the rest of Batam's main courses. The Panbil Nature Reserve next door is great for an early morning hike or bike ride if you want to mix in something different on a rest day, and the surrounding area covers shopping at Mega Mall and Kepri Mall as well as cultural stops like the Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple.
Guest feedback has been consistently strong - clean, spacious rooms, an excellent breakfast, attentive staff, and a sense of calm that you do not always find at urban five-star properties. For a Batam golf trip - particularly one that combines a few rounds with a bit of wellness, good food, and easy ferry access - Wyndham Panbil Batam is one of the best bases on the island.

| Beyond the Fairways: Batam's Other Side |
Batam is built around golf, but a few hours away from the course can completely change your impression of the place. Between rounds, these are the things worth knowing about.
The Barelang Bridge Drive
The Barelang Bridge is not actually a single bridge - it is a network of six, each built to a different structural design, linking Batam to the islands of Rempang and Galang to the south. Commissioned in the 1990s by then-President B.J. Habibie as a showcase of Indonesian engineering, it has become one of the most scenic drives in the region. Most golfers do it as a half-day trip - drive across, stop at viewpoints for photos, and time the return for sunset on the iconic Tengku Fisabilillah Bridge. Ask your Golfasian concierge to arrange a private driver.
Seafood at a Kelong
The kelongs - traditional wooden seafood restaurants built on stilts over the water - are a Batam institution. Pick your fish, prawns, or local gonggong sea snails out of a tank, watch them being cooked, and eat looking out over the sea. The best are clustered around the Barelang area, particularly near the second bridge. Pair this with the bridge drive and you have an easy, memorable evening that costs a fraction of a comparable meal back home.
Harbour Bay After Dark
When the round is over and the sun goes down, Harbour Bay is where Batam comes alive. The waterfront precinct on the north of the island is the heart of the city's nightlife - a walkable mix of bars, live music venues, lounges, restaurants, and shopping, all overlooking the marina and the strait. Whether you are after a quiet drink with the group, a long seafood dinner, or a livelier night out, Harbour Bay covers it. It is also one of the main ferry terminal areas, so for those arriving or departing by sea, a night here at the start or end of the trip works well.
Batam rewards a bit of curiosity. The golf is the reason most golfers come, but the bridge drive, the seafood, and the energy of Harbour Bay after dark often end up being what people remember most.

MEET OUR TEAM - Hana |
Hana's path into golf travel started at a Vocational Tourism School in Indonesia, and she has been in the country's golf tourism industry since 2012 - first as a travel consultant, then as a freelancer, and now as a key part of the Golfasian team in Indonesia. With Indonesia continuing to grow as a golf destination across Bali, Bintan, Batam, and beyond, Hana's local expertise is a real asset for clients planning trips to the region.
Travel is what keeps her motivated. She is passionate about exploring different cultures and natural landscapes - especially beach sunsets - and what really fuels her is meeting new people along the way. As she puts it, it feeds her soul. That genuine warmth comes through in the way she works with Golfasian clients, treating each itinerary as a chance to introduce someone new to the country she knows so well.
Outside of work, cooking is her meditation. She also relies on music as a daily mood boost, and stays active with walking and swimming. Recently she has taken up golf herself, starting at the driving range, and she is enjoying how the game trains patience, instinct, and peace of mind - a reminder of why so many of our clients keep coming back.
Sumatran by blood and Jakarta-born, her all-time favourite dish is Beef Rendang. For dessert, she will happily take carrot cake or ice cream - with coffee, salted caramel, and choco-mint at the top of her list. |
