Welcome to the February 2023 issue of the Asian Golf Insider, the source for news-breaking information about golf in Asia. Also, unique golf-playing tips for South East Asia's tropical environment, announcements of golf travel promotions, and fantastic upcoming tournament information are all parts of this newsletter.

Welcome the Rabbit to the year 2023. The zodiac symbol is good news for golfers. Rabbits live in holes, and that's where our golf balls should be in the least amount of strokes. Hopefully, the hole has a pin, not a divot!

The new Chinese year comes with news of China's reopening, which already positively impacts golf tourism throughout the region. Gong Xi Fa Chai to all golfers; see you on the fairways.

In this month's newsletter, we share an idea to escape the Winter blues with a golfing holiday in Bali. Our recommended courses and fantastic island experiences provide some ideas for travel enjoyment.

Not to be outdone, there are also plenty of reasons to golf in Thailand – The Land of Smiles. For starters, rain has disappeared and is forecast to dry for the next few months. Courses from Hua Hin to Pattaya are in superb condition, with challenging fairways and fast-rolling greens. Vietnam is faring even better, and March and April are ideal, and new golf courses in and around Ha Long Bay are hits with visitors looking to pair golf with Vietnam's most iconic landmark.

On the events calendar is the Hua Hin Skins, which is coming up in March, followed by two majors, Centara World Masters and Pattaya Men's. Additionally, an Invitational Series starts in July. Follow our updates by bookmarking this page for our ongoing Asian golf tournament calendar. Each golf tournament allows amateur golfers to participate in professionally organized golf events that challenge one's golf skills in a fun setting and provide excellent networking and new friendship-building opportunities.

While some say that Asia's incredible golf courses and bright sunshine are the main attractions, I beg to differ. To me and as a resident of Asia for the past 30 years, the rich cultural experiences together with very friendly locals encountered along the fairways often leave the fondest impressions. Just consider your caddie experiences, and you will know what I mean.

Thanks to you, Golfasian remains Asia's top golf tour operator providing services centered around authentic golf experiences. Your recognition of getting whizzed around in private chauffeur-driven transport, enjoying daily massages, dining at local and international restaurants, and experiencing some of the best beaches, tours, sights, and entertainment on earth are just a few of the points that set us apart.

Complete full-service itineraries created for your specific travel preferences, expectations, group size, and budgetary requirements are our specialty. Please get in touch with us anytime for a competitive quote.

Until the next month, happy golfing!

DESTINATION OF THE MONTH: Bali
Bali the “Island of the Gods” is one of the highest quality golf destinations in Asia. Golf in other places may be similar, but Bali, with the surrounding beauty of the ocean, mountains and unique island culture, provides you with a truly unique and authentic golfing experience.

Bali golf is like a dream come true. Bali National in Nusa Dua hosted the 1994 Asian Dunhill Masters, was voted by Fortune Magazine as one of Asia’s top five golf courses in 1997, and since its 2013 renovations stands out as the king of Bali golf.

Bali’s other courses have had their share of accolades too. New Kuta Golf Club hosted the 2009 Asian Tour Indonesia Open and is one of the finest links courses in Asia. Bali Handara Country Club, located high in the mountains was ranked in the top 50 courses in the world in 1980 and is the only course in the world that plays inside a crater of an extinct volcano. For a quick round, Bukit Pandawa Golf & Country Club is one of the best 18-hole executive courses in the world.

COURSE OF THE MONTH: Bali National Golf Club
A Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright designed Hawaiian-styled golf course, Bali National Golf Club re-opened in 2013 after undergoing extensive renovations. Being located at the southern tip of the island puts Bali National near many of the top hotels. It is only a short 15-minute drive by new 4-lane tollway from the Bali International Airport.

The Bali golf course now features new Paspalum turf, with scalloped bunkering lining most fairways and elevated greens. Many of the newly routed holes have lengthened to championship distances as the course now plays to over 7100 yards from the tips.

In its previous incarnation, Bali Nation hosted the 1994 Asian Dunhill Masters where Nick Faldo shot the course record 63, and in 1997 the Bali golf club was voted one of Asia's top 5 golf courses by Fortune Magazine.

Two Major Golf Events in Thailand in February
Golf in Thailand will be the centre of attention when the DP World Tour and the LPGA arrive in the land of the smiles shortly. The DP World tour is returning to Thailand after an absence of seven years when the US$2Million Thailand Classic arrives at Amata Springs on February 16th to 19th.

This is the first time that a DP World Tour has returned to Thailand since 2016. General admission ticket includes access to the golf and the Fan Village is free.

Thailand is hosting not one but two major golf events in February as the LPGA stars will be in Pattaya as well. The Honda LPGA Thailand kicks off a three-week stretch of events at Siam Country Club Old Course that make up the Tour’s annual Asia swing.
