Welcome to the October Asian Golf Insider
High season is just around the corner and we are already very busy. If you haven’t planned your golf holiday yet, now is the time – the earlier we start, the better your chance of securing preferred tee times, the best hotel rooms and any worthwhile special offers.
This month we turn the spotlight on Singapore: excellent golf, memorable hotels, outstanding food and plenty to discover beyond the usual sights.
One quick question: where are you hoping to play golf this winter? Just hit reply and tell me – I’d love to hear from you. Mark Siegel Managing Director, Golfasian |

DESTINATION OF THE MONTH Singapore deserves more than a layover
Singapore has much more to offer than one island. For golfers, Laguna National, Tanah Merah and Orchid Country Club broaden the choice, with each course showing a different side of the city’s golf.
The Serapong is still the headline round, with its skyline and harbour views, while The Tanjong makes an excellent second game.
Off the course, spend an evening around Marina Bay, explore the Peranakan streets and food of Katong and Joo Chiat, or start the morning at Tiong Bahru Market. Singapore is compact, so a round of golf, a neighbourhood lunch and a memorable dinner fit comfortably into the same day. The city also works beautifully as the start of a longer trip: add a short ferry ride to Bintan for seaside golf, or continue to Malaysia and the rest of Southeast Asia. |

COURSE OF THE MONTH Sentosa Golf Club · The Serapong The Serapong asks you to think before you swing. Fairway lines, water and beautifully placed bunkers set up choices all day, with Singapore’s port and skyline appearing between shots. This is the layout that has hosted the Singapore Open and LIV Golf Singapore.
Andy Johnston, the club’s General Manager, Director of Agronomy and resident course designer, says it will tempt you into taking risks. His tip: choose the landing area you can hit, keep out of the bunkers and let the score take care of itself. You do not have to accept every dare.
Come back for The Tanjong if your schedule allows – the same superb conditioning with a lighter, more open personality. Playing both is the best way to understand the club. |

ACCOMMODATION OF THE MONTH Capella Singapore
An island stay that makes a golf trip feel like a holiday. Capella sits among lush grounds on Sentosa, with restored 19th-century colonial bungalows at its heart and contemporary rooms, suites and villas tucked into the landscape – a wonderfully calm place to return to after a demanding round at The Serapong.
Capella’s Culturists arrange experiences shaped around your interests, from a walk exploring local art to learning mahjong from a master. The Living Room offers an easy afternoon pause, and Auriga Spa is there when your legs need a quieter day. For golfers travelling with a partner, the pairing is especially appealing. |

INTERVIEW Meet Andy JohnstonAndy Johnston has helped shape Sentosa Golf Club for nearly two decades. He first came to Singapore for a course redesign, promised the club he would keep returning, and eventually made the island his home.
Today he wears three hats: General Manager, Director of Agronomy and resident course designer. |
| In our conversation he shares the childhood moment that drew him to golf, the very different personalities of The Serapong and The Tanjong, and the small choices that make a round at Sentosa memorable.
His advice for The Serapong? Resist the heroic shot now and then. His advice for Singapore? Do not pass straight through. |

BEYOND THE FAIRWAYS Three Singapore experiences worth making time for
1. Step inside Peranakan Singapore. A private visit to The Intan in Joo Chiat brings Singapore’s Peranakan story to life through a remarkable collection of antiques, beadwork and porcelain, shared in the intimate setting of a family home. 2. See Singapore from the water. Leave the city behind on a Southern Islands yacht cruise past Lazarus and Kusu, with quiet blue water, green islands and the skyline waiting on the return.
3. Make an evening of Singapore. Begin beside the river, enjoy dinner and the lights of Marina Bay, then finish with a Singapore Sling at Raffles. |

MEET OUR TEAM King, Webmaster & MarketingKing is the person behind many of the digital details you see at Golfasian. As our Webmaster and a member of the Marketing team, he works across website design, graphic design and a wide range of marketing projects. | |
His path into design began with sales and IT. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and has spent more than 10 years working with international travel companies – a natural fit for his role at Golfasian. What he likes most is that no two days are the same.
Away from the screen, King follows Thai football and relaxes with music, good food and a cold beer. Japan is his favourite country to visit – put him in front of a Japanese buffet or a plate of Thai seafood with a properly spicy dipping sauce, and he is very happy. |
