Jim was born and raised in Ohio, USA with an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and a masters degree from Capital University, both in Business Administration.
Jim spent 20+ years working in corporate America in various financial positions in the steel, oilfield equipment and cable television industries, mostly in Texas and North Carolina. Suddenly and unexpectedly out of work in 2006 due to corporate restructuring, Jim moved to Asia in 2007 looking for ‘something new and different’. At that time he had been coming to Asia and especially to Thailand for personal golf holidays over a number of years, including as a customer of Golfasian. [Read more about Jim Mullet]
As a child Jim always loved sports and started playing golf at age of 13. He became hooked instantly and golf has been his passion ever since.
Jim decided to get ‘serious’ about golf in the 1990s and spent time working with Houston based instructor Kevin Kirk (who currently coaches Jonathan Vegas and various other PGA Tour pros). Through lessons, regular practice and playing 2 – 3 times a week he got down to a single digit handicap and hovered between a 7 and a 10 for about five years. However work commitments and life’s other twists and turns over the last decade haven’t left much time for hitting the links and even less for practice. Now just happy to break 100 while enjoying the scenery and everything else the game has to offer.
Most memorable golf experiences:
- First ever par (7th hole, Sugarcreek GC, Sugarcreek, Ohio), age 13
- Breaking 80 on the TPC Sawgrass Stadium course (home of The Players Championship)
- First overseas golf trip – Troon and St. Andrews, Scotland
- First (and only) Hole-In-One at Alpine Golf & Sports Club, Bangkok
Goal: To be able to still walk and play at least 9 holes somewhat regularly when I’m 80 years old.
