Playing Golf in Thailand
For a truly unforgettable golfing experience, Thailand is a must for anyone wanting to have a custom golf vacation that they will remain in their memory forever. As one of the world's leading tourism destinations, Thailand is a theater of cultural and sensual contrasts that continue to draw millions of overseas visitors each year. Golf in Thailand has long been one of its best-kept secrets, but now tourists have access to it's many wonderful and stunning courses and can experience this in one of our Thailand golf vacations. Handicap certificate's and club membership cards are not required, ensuring that the golf courses are accessible to everyone. For beginners and advanced golfers alike, everyone can take advantage of our Thailand golf vacations.
Throughout Thailand, there are nearly 200 golf courses, with the majority being located in the most popular tourist destinations of Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Famous golf professionals including Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Gary Player, Greg Norman, and world-renowned course designers Robert Trent Jones and Pete Dye have designed many of the Thailand golf courses. Wherever you should decide to play golf in Thailand, you will find superbly maintained and manicured courses, with impressive clubhouses offering excellent facilities to pamper you after your round. On the course, drinks huts and refreshment houses are strategically located every three or four holes to offer you a break in play, and a cool refreshing drink and snacks. This all adds to the unique experience of playing golf in Thailand.
The Course and the Caddies
A custom golf vacation at one of our many recommended resorts is easily arranged and presents an exclusive opportunity for perfecting your golf in Thailand. Most Thai golf courses will have buggy's available for hire, but they can be at a premium in the 'high season' so please take note. Please also note that all resorts of golf in Thailand have a 'soft spike' policy so ensure you bring the correct footwear. Depending on your requirements, there are a number of choices where you can base yourself for a unique custom golf vacation. Golfasian will be happy to recommend and create a custom golf vacation for individuals or groups at any of our featured destinations. However you wish to adapt one of our packaged Thailand golf vacations, we can obligingly accommodate.
During your custom golf vacation caddies are compulsory on a Thai golf course and cost around 200 baht (approximately 5 US dollars) a round, which is included in the price of your green fee. In most cases they will pull your clubs on 'caddy car' (trolley), should you wish to walk, although they will also ride with you in a cart (buggy) if you prefer. Please note it is compulsory at some Thailand golf courses to use a cart. Your caddie will be allocated upon arrival, and will look after your clubs until you tee-off and are of particular assistance for easy golf in Thailand. Always helpful, and forever with a smiling face, your caddie is another part of the unique Thailand golf experience. They mark and clean your ball, give guidance on the line of putts, and try to keep you cool when things get a bit hot during your round. For 200 baht this is very much the bargain of a lifetime and as such, tips to the caddies are much appreciated at the end of your days golf.
The Weather and When to Play
Thailand enjoys a tropical climate with three distinct seasons - Hot (April-June), Rainy (July-October) and cool (November- March). Temperatures in Thailand range from 35 ðC in April to 20 ðC in December. The climate in Northern Thailand is much cooler than the Central Plains and the South, and you should bear this in mind when planning your custom golf vacation. Playing a round of golf in Thailand is possible almost any time of the year, even in the rainy season when downpours are usually short-lived and rarely bring a game of golf in Thailand to a complete halt. Courses are often quieter during this period, giving you more selectivity and options during your custom golf vacation. During your Thailand golf vacations, you are blessed with an average of 12 hours of daylight and sunshine throughout the year, from 6.30 am to 6.30 pm. As the temperature is cooler in the morning and late afternoon, it is popular to tee-off early or late in the day, avoiding the strong midday sun. However, it must be noted that in the 'high' season (November - March) Thai golf courses are extremely busy and therefore tee-off times desired may not be possible.
Culture and Customs
Our Golf Package tours in Thailand offer a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the locals. Thai people are traditionally very polite, friendly, and easygoing people. They are renowned for their tolerance of other cultures and friendliness to visitors taking advantage of the golf & travel available. They avoid confrontation at all costs, it is not in their nature to shout, cause a scene, or create a drama. It is important whilst enjoying golf tours in Thailand, that you give due respect and consideration to this very gracious country, and never cause a person to lose face. By accepting the misgivings of certain situations, and by being polite, showing good manners and smiling, you will gain huge respect from locals, employees and all associated with your golf tours in Thailand. Thai people want you to enjoy their country with its many attractions and custom golf packages. They will go out of their way to make your golf & travel as memorable as possible.
Whilst experiencing our Thailand golf tours, there are some local customs of which you should be sensitive about. Thais don't normally shake hands when they greet one another, but instead press the palms together in a prayer-like gesture called a 'wai'. The 'wai' is layered with intricacies of class, gender, and age - each of these dictates a certain height at which the two hands must be held. Visitors are not expected to be familiar with these complexities and the easiest method is simply to mirror the greeting given to you. The head is regarded as a sacred part of the body, literally and figuratively. Therefore, avoid touching people on the head and try not to point your feet at people or a religious object. This is considered very rude. Throughout your custom golf packages remember Thai people have a very deep, traditional reverence for the Royal Family, and a visitor should always show respect for the King, Queen and the Royal Children.
At Golfasian we want you to enjoy your golf & travel and to always feel at ease. Visitors combining sightseeing with our custom golf course packages should dress neatly in all religious shrines and temples, and should never go without shirts, in shorts, or other unsuitable attire. It is acceptable to wear shoes when walking around the compound of a Buddhist temple, but not inside the chapel where the principal Buddha image is kept. Each Buddha image, large or small, ruined or not, is regarded as a sacred object. When visiting places of interest please ensure photography is permitted and do not do anything that might indicate a lack of respect. We wish to ensure that our package tours in Thailand combine exclusive opportunities for you to enjoy all that this diverse country has to offer.

After a few down years due to the economy, political unrest and floods, Chiang Mai tourism bounced back stronger than ever for the 2012 / 2013 High Season, with hotels and golf courses largely fully booked from mid-December through February. As a result many golfers are now asking when would be a good time for both weather and avoiding the crowds? I like to suggest the 'shoulder' seasons just before and after High Season. Siem Reap is a small former French colonial town that has been visited by foreigners mainly to see the 1000 year old cradle of Khmer civilization and the Temples of Angkor Wat. Over the last 20 years I have seen Pattaya grow from a seaside city into a thriving metropolis of international standings. Now Pattaya goes for 20 minutes drive in any direction with a huge array of restaurants, nightclubs, bars, shopping centres, massage and day spa facilities, and high stan...

Golf Styles Thailand - The Good Life
Strolling down the main drag in Pattaya, Thailand, the local clocks ticking toward 11 p.m., I am reminded of the golf destinations we North Americans regard as desirable. Front and center is the golf component, of course. Normally it's the primary factor in determining quality or desirability. But there's no denying that packs of (primarily) male golfers generally prize golfing locales for their nightlife, too. Any gaggle of eight to 12 golfing buddies will include a few lads determined t...

Improve Your Game with a Golf Package in Thailand
Our golf school vacation packages can dramatically improve your game and score, but you must also remember to consider the green. Once you've mastered control of your putter and the perfect stroke, you must be able "to read the green". First you have to know the type of grass, meaning you need to kneel down and figure out which way it grows, then you have to judge the distance and how the ball will break. Then the speed! All of which can be learned at our excellent golf school vacation...
